Chem notes pt 1 Compunds and elements and blah blah blah.. @ 7:44 PM
haha here are the chemistry notes i made up for elements etc. ermm, they are basically a summary of the chem notes that Mr Wong gave us. So, i shortened them and now i present to u.... MY VERY FIRST NOTE OF THE SET OF NOTES IM GONNA PUBLISH..... Lol... btw... errm, i've decided to leave out diffusion, kinetic theory... cos i think u guys alrd memorise and noe liao:D
Haha, also pls rmb wad mr wong said... to answer heating curve qns... there are 3 things u need to write down.... 1. Arrangement 2. Action 3. Aftermath Haha LOL the 3As :D
ok, lets begin...
Elements
substance that cannot be broke down into simpler substances
each element has a name & symbol
E.g. Copper (Cu), Sulfur (S), Oxygen (O)
pure, have fixed boiling and melting points
can be classified into metals & non-metals
Molecules
atoms joined in grps
diatomic molecule= 2 of the same atoms joined together
E.g. oxygen gas (o2)
Compounds
substance that contains 2 or more diffrent elements which are chemically combined through chemical reactions
joined together by chemical bonds
E.g. water, salt, sugar...
Making Compounds
Combustion
E.g. burning of sulfur : Methane = O2 ---> Water + Carbon dioxide
Combination
E.g. Iron+Sulfur --->Iron sulfide
Decomposition of compounds
E.g. Sugar ---> Carbon + Water Vapour
Reacting elements and compounds
E.g. Iron + Copper (II) sulfate ---> Iron (II) sulfate + copper
Properties of Compounds
heat and/or light may be released or absorbed during chemical reaction
properties of compound are diff. from properties of constituent elements
have a fixed proportion of its constituents by mass
pure
can be broken down into constituents by chemical methods
Mixture
2 or more diff. substances that are mixed together & are not chemically combined
Properties of Mixture
Impure
Constituents retain own properties
can be seperated into constituent substances by simple physical methods
Haha, so this is the end of this notes on the topic Elements, compounds & blahblahblah.... Ok?? Haha, pls give me feedback on these ntes, whether they need to be more specific or anything else
*PS errm, my ntes are based on the sch's ntes.... Also, my ntes only consist of wad i think u guys will need to revise... for the whole thing... go see the ntes or find Mr Wong to clear ur doubts :))) And, also, JIAYOUS for ur revision!!!! :)
